From June 2nd to 6th, 2025, a Student Exchange Program held under the Joint Training Program was conducted at the School of Agricultural Sciences. 23 students from Kasetsart University in Thailand and Royal Agricultural University in Cambodia participated.
During the program, 21 undergraduate students from our faculty of Bioresource Sciences also participated. All participants were divided into five groups, each focusing on a different theme: rice production, horticulture, animal production, food processing, and river basin areas and agriculture, forestry and fisheries.
Beginning with a special lecture by Professor Ashikari, the students attended a series of lectures on each theme, followed by a three-day field training stay. Through visits and hands-on experiences at the Aichi Agricultural Research Center, JA Aichi Chuo, agricultural corporations, and Maruya Hatcho Miso Co., Ltd., they learned about the challenges faced by Japanese agriculture and the cutting-edge approaches to address them.
In the final stage, each group gave a presentation to share the information gathered during the field training, and enthusiastically exchanged various opinions, including new perspectives on environmental issues, key problems and proposed solutions.
Meanwhile, the accompanying faculty members from KU and RUA paid a courtesy visit to the dean and other executives, reported on the program, and discussed future developments.
On the last day, we invited President Sugiyama and Vice President Mizutani to the farewell party, promoting cultural exchange and open discussion in a relaxed atmosphere. The event was filled with smiles and warm moments.
Over the nine-day training program, participants engaged in meaningful exchanges not only by gaining valuable experience through exposure to Japanese culture and agriculture but also by inspiring one another across borders.
This program was carried out with support from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the “Networked Exchange, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN (NEXUS) -Young Talents Exchange and Capacity Development Program.”
